Shasta Tayam L.Ac., Dipl. Ac. (NCCA), A.H.G., (DBA Shasta Tayam), is one of the very few western second-generation acupuncturists with over 3 decades of exposure to Chinese Medicine. Raised with Chinese Medicine as her primary system of healthcare, Chinese Medicine is more than just a practice or a technique, but a way of life.

As a licensed primary health care provider, she has been certified since 1995 through the State of California Acupuncture Board. Shasta has received special training in orthopedic testing, evaluation and orthopedic acupuncture treatment techniques and works with the California Workers' Compensation system. In addition, she is recognized by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture from the Florida School of Complementary Medicine.

In 1993, Shasta completed an extensive clinical internship with her father, Dr. Michael Tierra L.Ac., O.M.D., successfully fulfilling the requirements of the Medical Board of California Acupuncture Board Tutorial Program. In addition, she studied the application and principles of Western, Chinese, and Ayurvedic herbology in the American School of Herbalism. Furthermore, she expanded her knowledge by studying oriental food therapy.

Shasta's training also encompasses the completion of a clinical internship in advanced acupuncture with Dr. Miriam Lee, L.Ac., O.M.D., who was the founder and former president of the American Acupuncture Association, and internationally recognized author of "Insights of a Senior Acupuncturist".

Shasta has a very broad background in natural healthcare. She has worked for the Center for Integrative Medicine at O'Connor hospital, as well as having lectured on Chinese Medicine at the Stanford Center for Integrative Medicine and the Cancer Supportive Care Program. In 1989 she became a certified massage therapist focusing on pain management, obstetric and gynecological applications. She has extensive experience in assisting the teaching of numerous self-developmental courses. In 1990 she became a certified Yoga Instructor through the Ashtanga Yoga Institute. Through the years she has also taught classes in oriental bodywork therapy through the American School of Herbalism.

Currently Shasta operates a practice as a general practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Her unique approach incorporates a total health program aimed at achieving whole life enrichment. Additionally, she specializes in pain management/orthopedic acupuncture, internal medicine, thyroid dysfunctions and women's healthcare. She is a professional member of the American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
